Peoples Park

The main draw here is a proper walk through managed woodland and open grassland, the sort of place that does wonders for clearing your head after a few days of static caravan life. Peoples Park, just outside Ashington, gives you that balance between nature reserve and accessible green space - there are paths through the trees, open areas where the light actually gets through, and enough room to let the kids run about without losing sight of them.

It's best suited to families wanting a couple of hours of gentle walking, or anyone who just needs fresh air and something green to look at. The terrain is easy enough that you won't need fell boots, but there's enough variety to keep it interesting. Birdwatchers might find it worthwhile, particularly during migration periods, though it's not going to compete with Kielder for serious twitching.

Being within a mile or two of Sandy Bay, Church Point, and Cresswell Towers holiday parks means it's perfectly positioned for a morning or afternoon outing. You can knock it out in about ninety minutes without rushing, which fits nicely between breakfast and lunch, or as an evening stroll if you time it right.

The fact that I can't find confirmed opening hours or admission prices online is bit frustrating - suggests it's one of those council-run reserves that doesn't shout about itself. Worth ringing Ashington council ahead of time to check. It's not going to blow your mind, but it's a solid alternative to park facilities if the weather plays along.
