Pen Moel Ciliau

Standing at 418 metres above the Teifi Valley, this modest Welsh hill delivers views that punch well above its weight. The climb from Llandysul takes about 45 minutes through sheep-dotted pasture and rough moorland, with the final approach offering glimpses of Cardigan Bay on clear days.

Walkers with a decent level of fitness will find this a proper little workout without being overly challenging. The summit itself is marked by a small cairn and provides a cracking 360-degree panorama across west Wales. On good days you can spot the Preseli Hills to the south and the Cambrian Mountains stretching inland.

Families might struggle with the unmarked paths and boggy sections after rain, but experienced hikers will appreciate having this peak largely to themselves. Allow two to three hours for the round trip, and bring waterproofs - the weather can turn quickly up here.
