Pen Llyn y Garnedd

The walk up Pen Llyn y Garnedd isn't a leg-breaker, but it's steep enough that you'll feel it in your thighs by the top. Starting from near Talsarnau, you're looking at a proper hillwalk rather than a casual stroll - allow a good two to three hours if you're not rushing. The summit itself sits at around 570 metres, and on a clear day the views across Snowdonia and down to the coast are genuinely worth the effort. You'll see Cardigan Bay spreading out below, and on good visibility days the whole Lleyn Peninsula opens up. The terrain is rough in places - boggy on the approach, rockier as you climb - so decent boots matter more than you'd think for a peak this modest in height. It's a walkers' hill, really. Kids might struggle with the mud and loose stones unless they're already experienced on hillsides. The nearest facilities are back in Talsarnau, a small village that won't win any architectural prizes but has what you need. If you're camping or glamping at Llechwedd just up the road at Plas Weunydd, this makes a solid half-day outing that gets you away from the holiday park crowds without driving. There's nothing fancy about it - no visitor centre, no cafe on top - but that's partly why it's good. Come early, check the weather forecast first, and bring waterproofs even if it looks dry.
