About Pen Garn
What you get at the top, though, is worth the huffing. On a clear day, the Snowdonia massif sprawls across the horizon to the east, and westward you're looking straight out across Cardigan Bay. The wind can be ferocious up here - bring a jacket even in summer.
This is one for walkers with proper legs rather than families with toddlers in tow. The path isn't maintained like some of the Lake District honeypots, and there's genuine exposure on sections. Allow a solid three hours return from Pwllheli, or slightly less if you know what you're doing.
If you're staying at any of the caravan parks dotted around Pwllheli - Gimblet Rock, Haven Hafan y Môr, or Tal-y-Fan are all within three or four miles - this makes a cracking afternoon objective. Combine it with a morning on Pwllheli beach or an amble around the harbour, and you've got a proper day out. Don't bother coming up here in heavy cloud. The walk's unrewarding without the views.
