Pen Bryn Y Clochydd

The walk up Pen Bryn Y Clochydd from Betws-y-Coed takes about two hours there and back, and it's a proper leg-burner if you're not used to Welsh hillsides. The route climbs steadily through woodland before opening out onto moorland, with views across the Conwy Valley that get better the higher you push. There's no visitor centre, no facilities, nothing except the mountain itself and what you've packed in your rucksack. The summit isn't dramatic - no sudden drop or rocky outcrop - but the solitude makes it worthwhile. You'll likely have it to yourself even on weekends.

I'd allow three hours if you're taking photos and enjoying the views rather than racing up. Go when the cloud's not sitting on the ridges. Mist makes it feel longer and considerably less rewarding.
