Park Spinney

The woodland walk at Park Spinney comes as a proper relief if you're staying anywhere near Northampton - it's the kind of place that reminds you why people bother with forests in the first place. Ancient trees, decent paths, and enough green to actually feel like you've left the town behind, even though you're barely three miles out.

What you get here is straightforward: woodland trails winding through mixed broadleaf and conifer sections. The paths are manageable, not too boggy most of the time, and there's enough shade to make a summer visit bearable. It's the sort of spot where families with younger kids won't get bored within an hour - there's enough to explore without feeling like a forced march. Older walkers will appreciate the quietness; it's not rammed with people.

The nearest town is Northampton itself, which means if you're based at any of the local holiday parks - Lakeview Glamping, Bunkers Hill Farm, or Steepleton Lodge - you're well positioned for a proper outdoor morning. It takes maybe an hour or two depending on which paths you take and whether you're actually walking or just dawdling about.

Bring decent shoes because it can be muddy after rain, and there's not much in the way of facilities, so sort yourself out beforehand. Free access, no nonsense. It won't be the most spectacular woodland you've ever walked through, but it's honest, local, and genuinely worth the short drive from your accommodation.
