Naseby Hill dominates the landscape, offering cracking views from Fairfax's Viewpoint where Cromwell's army once surveyed the battlefield below. It's a bit of a trek up, but well worth it on clear days when you can see across three counties. The Source of River Avon bubbles up nearby - hardly dramatic, but there's something rather lovely about finding where England's second-longest river begins its journey to the Bristol Channel.

The surrounding woods - Dale Wood, Moss Hall Spinney, Long Walk Spinney - make for proper rambling country, thick with bluebells in spring and surprisingly quiet midweek.

Village life centres around ancient churches like St Michael & All Angels and St James, both worth a look for their Norman stonework. Spratton Sports & Social Club does decent pub grub if you're after a proper Sunday roast.

Northampton town lies 10 miles south for shopping and transport links, but out here feels wonderfully removed from urban life. Several holiday parks dot the area, from traditional touring sites to newer glamping options, making excellent bases for exploring this slice of rural Northamptonshire without the crowds of the Cotswolds.
