Park Head

Standing 300 feet above the Atlantic, this grassy headland offers one of Cornwall's more dramatic coastal viewpoints without the usual tourist crowds. The clifftop position gives you sweeping views south towards Newquay and north up the rugged coastline - on clear days you can pick out the distinctive outline of Trevose Head lighthouse in the distance.

Walkers will find Park Head properly rewarding, especially those tackling sections of the South West Coast Path. The approach from Porthcothan involves a steep climb, but it's well worth the effort for photographers and anyone after that classic Cornish coastal drama.

Families should note there are no facilities here - it's essentially wild headland with paths worn by countless boots. The clifftop drops are significant, so keep younger children well back from the edge. An hour or two is plenty for most visitors unless you're planning a longer coastal walk.

Being free and always accessible, Park Head works well as a morning or evening excursion from the various holiday parks scattered around Newquay. Sun Haven Holiday Park sits closest at under three miles away, while Watergate Bay Touring Park offers another convenient base. The headland catches the best light at sunset when the Atlantic stretches endlessly westward.
