Park Bank

The walk up Park Bank near Presteigne is a straightforward moorland climb that rewards you with proper panoramic views across the Radnorshire hills. Nothing dramatic - no scrambling, no exposure - but the kind of walk that leaves you feeling like you've actually done something when you reach the top.

It's moorland terrain all the way, so expect bracken, rough grass, and the occasional boggy patch depending on recent weather. The views sweep across Mid Wales with Presteigne sitting below like a toy town. On a clear day you can see for miles. On a grey day, which is most days up here, it's moody and atmospheric. Both have their charm.

Families with older kids will manage it fine - nothing technical, though younger ones might find the moorland a bit repetitive. Serious walkers treating this as a solo mission won't find it taxing, but it's a proper little excursion, not a quick afternoon dash. Allow a couple of hours there and back from Presteigne town.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Rockbridge Park is excellent and only 4.7 miles away - this makes a cracking half-day walk without needing to venture too far from base. It's the kind of thing you do on a decent morning before heading back for lunch. Presteigne itself is worth a poke around, though the hill is the draw. Free to visit, of course. Bring proper footwear; it can be boggy.
