Parc Arfordirol y Mileniwm / Millennium Coastal Park

The Millennium Coastal Park sprawls across Swansea's seafront like someone's finally got round to tidying up properly. It's a proper nature reserve where the Tawe Estuary does its thing - mudflats, salt marshes, reedbeds - and you can actually walk through it all without needing specialist equipment or a degree in wetland management.

What you get is a few miles of paths running alongside the water, with viewing areas that let you clock wading birds, the occasional heron if you're lucky, and the industrial bones of Swansea's past dotted about in the background. The paths are decent - flat enough that buggies work fine, but nothing that'll tax serious walkers. You're looking at an hour to ninety minutes if you do a decent loop, though you can easily pop in and out for a quick blow through.

It's free, which is the main thing. No gift shop, no visitor centre nonsense. Just nature doing its job.

Families get the most from it on a clear morning when the light's good and there's actual stuff to spot. Older kids keen on nature or photography won't be bored. Very young ones might find it a bit samey after a bit - there's no playground, no ice cream van, just birds and water.

If you're caravan-based at Gateway Resort or Shoreline, both within a couple of miles, this is your walk sorted for a day. Worth combining with something else on Swansea's seafront or a spin down to Gower if the weather holds.
