Common Wood sits just outside Swansea on the Gower Peninsula, a proper chunk of ancient woodland that's been here far longer than most of us can fathom. The wood itself is manageable on foot, with paths that wind through without being especially strenuous, though it can get muddy after rain so decent boots are wise.

Families with younger kids might find it a bit samey after twenty minutes - there's no dramatic viewpoint or waterfall to aim for, just trees and more trees. Older walkers and anyone with a vague interest in natural history will get far more from it.

The real pull is using it as part of a wider Gower ramble. You're minutes from Llanrhidian Holiday Park if you're staying locally, and the broader peninsula has proper coastal walks at places like Three Cliffs Bay or Oxwich that pack more punch. Common Wood works best as a morning potter before heading to the beach for lunch - a gentle warm-up rather than a destination in itself.

Access appears to be free and unrestricted, though there's no formal visitor infrastructure here. Allow an hour for a proper look around without rushing.
