Old Dale

Old Dale is a proper woodland walk near Malton, the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think. It's a forested valley that cuts through the Yorkshire Wolds, with decent paths threading through beech and oak - nothing too demanding, but enough variety to keep you occupied for an hour or two.

The appeal here is straightforward: if you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots like Yorkshire Wolds Glamping or Humble Bee Farm, this gives you a genuine woodland escape without needing to travel far. Families won't struggle with the terrain, though younger kids might find a two-hour circuit on the dull side. The real draw is for anyone after a bit of forest air and peace - walkers especially appreciate it as a warm-up route or a morning venture before heading into Malton for lunch.

There's nothing fancy about it. No visitor centre, no signage overload. You turn up, park where you can, and walk. The woodland canopy is proper thick, so it's worth visiting in autumn when the trees thin out and you can actually see something. Winter walks are atmospheric if you don't mind mud.

Combine it with Thorpe Hall Cottages or Wolds Walk Glamping as a base - both are within striking distance - and you've got a solid half-day sorted. It won't blow your mind, but it's the kind of unremarkable spot that reminds you why the Yorkshire Wolds exist in the first place: proper countryside, no crowds, no nonsense.
