Oat Hill won't win any prizes for dramatic elevation, but the climb rewards you with surprisingly decent views across the surrounding farmland and towards the industrial edges of the West Midlands.

Walkers looking for a quick leg-stretch will find the route straightforward enough, though the paths can get muddy after rain - as is the way with most Staffordshire countryside. The summit itself is nothing fancy, but on a clear day you can pick out the outlines of Cannock Chase to the south.

Families with older children might enjoy the walk up, though younger ones could find it a bit dull once the novelty wears off. It's more one for those who appreciate gentle English countryside rather than anything too adventurous.

Perfectly positioned if you're staying at one of the holiday parks scattered around this part of Staffordshire. Chase Camping at Tackeroo and the various sites near Four Oaks Farm put you within easy reach, making Oat Hill a decent option for an afternoon stroll when you fancy getting away from the caravan for a few hours. Allow an hour or two for the round trip, depending on how long you linger at the top.
