North Wood

A proper walk through Cornwall's woodland without the crowds you'd fight through at the big name spots. North Wood sits just outside Truro and delivers what it promises - ancient trees, decent paths, and enough green to blow the cobwebs clean off after a drive. The forest floor is thick with moss and bracken depending on the season, and the canopy does that thing where it turns everything golden when the light hits it right.

It's the sort of place walkers actually enjoy rather than endure. You're looking at anything from a gentle loop to a proper ramble, all on manageable terrain. Families with kids who can manage a decent stride will get a solid hour or two out of it without anyone grumbling. The paths are clear enough that you won't spend half the time checking your phone to see if you're lost.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Trethem Mill is excellent for this sort of outing - you can knock it out as a morning adventure before lunch. Carnon Downs is even closer if you've got the motorhome. It's free to walk, obviously, and there's no nonsense with opening hours to worry about. Go early if you can, or get there mid-week to dodge other people's dog walkers.

Honestly, it's not the sort of place you'll tell everyone about when you get home, but it's exactly the kind of walk you need when you're staying locally and want to stretch your legs without making a day of it.
