North Nab

The walk up North Nab rewards you with one of those sudden, proper views that makes the climb feel worthwhile. From Skipton, you're looking at a modest peak that doesn't sound like much on paper - but the vantage point across the Wharfe Valley and toward Bolton Abbey is genuinely excellent, especially in late afternoon when the light gets low and golden.

It's not a slog. The path from Bolton Abbey Estate is straightforward enough, though there are sections that'll get your heart working, particularly in the final push to the summit. Allow a couple of hours return, or longer if you're meandering and taking photos. The higher you climb, the wider the perspective opens up - you trade the intimate woodland walks for something altogether grander.

This is walkers' terrain, frankly. If you're after a stroll, you'll find better options around Bolton Abbey itself, just down the valley. But if you've got decent legs and want to earn a view without needing a full mountain day, North Nab sits in that sweet spot. The peak isn't dramatic or particularly high, yet it feels like a proper little expedition rather than a casual ramble.

Stay at Bolton Abbey Estate Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite - it's barely over a mile away and puts you within striking distance for an early start. Catgill Farm and Howgill Lodge offer alternatives if you prefer something quieter. Free to access, naturally. Go when the weather's clear enough to justify the climb, or not at all.
