Howsber

Howsber is a modest fell that rises above the Bolton Abbey area, just a short drive south of Skipton. It's not particularly high or dramatic - you won't find sweeping vistas that make you gasp - but it serves as a solid half-day walk for anyone staying at the nearby campsites, particularly Bolton Abbey Estate Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite a mere half-mile away.

The climb itself takes about forty minutes, depending on fitness and the route you choose. The fell is walkable from multiple directions, with the most straightforward approach from the Bolton Abbey side. You'll find yourself among moorland and rough grassland, with views across the Yorkshire Dales that are pleasant rather than life-changing. On a clear day you can see across to Pendle Hill and the surrounding peaks.

This is terrain for people who enjoy a gentle upland walk without the committment of something like Pen-y-ghent or Whernside. Families with older children will manage it fine, though it's not the sort of peak that builds bragging rights.
