North Hill

A proper woodland walk rather than a manicured nature reserve. North Hill sits just outside Pembroke and gives you the kind of forest you actually want to stomp through - dense enough to feel like you've properly left civilisation behind, with decent paths that don't feel like they've been tarmacked to death.

It's a modest affair, so don't expect grand vistas or rare birds. What you get instead is a genuine bit of Pembrokeshire woodland, the sort of place where you can spend a couple of hours without bumping into crowds. The canopy's thick enough that it's brilliant for a cool-down on warmer days, and the paths work well for families with older kids or anyone who fancies a straightforward forest ramble. Younger children might find it a touch dull after the first twenty minutes - there's no dramatic waterfall or ancient monument to point at.

No facilities that I could find, so come prepared with water and snacks. It reads as entirely free access, though you might want to check locally in Pembroke before you head out, just in case. Allow ninety minutes if you're taking it easy and exploring both main paths.
