Noddle Hill LNR

The walk up Noddle Hill rewards you with proper views across East Yorkshire's rolling countryside - the kind of panorama that makes you understand why people bother with nature reserves at all. It's a local nature reserve just outside Beverley, modest in scale but genuine in appeal, with woodland paths that actually feel like you've stepped away from things rather than just wandered round a mowed field.

You'll find yourself among mixed woodland and grassland, the sort of terrain that draws serious birdwatchers and botanists. Spring is particularly good if wildflowers matter to you; autumn's when migrating birds pass through. The hill itself isn't taxing - you're looking at an hour's walk comfortably, two if you're the type to stop and identify every plant.

Families with young children will find it fine for a leg-stretcher, though don't expect facilities or the manicured appeal of a country estate. It's proper countryside management rather than a tourist attraction dressed up as nature. The paths can get muddy, especially after rain, so come prepared.

If you're based at Burton Constable Holiday Park or Spring Valley just down the road, Noddle Hill makes an excellent morning excursion before heading into Beverley itself. You won't need more than a couple of hours here, which means you've got the rest of the day free. Free access, no gates, no faffing about - just woodland and views.
