Nelson's Column

Standing 105 feet tall on the Kymin hill, this Nelson's Column predates its famous London cousin by three decades. Built in 1800 to honour Admiral Nelson's naval victories, it offers spectacular views across the Wye Valley and into Wales on a clear day.

Climbing the spiral staircase inside rewards you with panoramic vistas that stretch for miles. The walk up from the car park takes about fifteen minutes through pleasant woodland, though it's a proper uphill slog that might leave you slightly puffed.

History enthusiasts will appreciate the naval temple nearby, decorated with plaques commemorating British admirals. Families with older children who don't mind a bit of exercise will enjoy the adventure, though toddlers might struggle with the climb and the column itself isn't particularly engaging for little ones.
