National Trust - Trelissick Garden

The moment you walk through the gates at Trelissick, you're struck by how the garden just drops away toward the Fal estuary. It's genuinely dramatic - all rolling lawns and mature trees framing views that shift depending on where you stand. The National Trust has done proper work here, planting gardens that actually look lived-in rather than manicured to death.

You'll find woodland walks threading through, spring bulbs if you time it right, and rhododendrons that go mad in May. There's a kitchen garden too, which feels less showpiece and more functional. The house itself (open seasonally) is worth poking around, though the grounds are the real star turn here.

This works brilliantly if you're based at Carnon Downs Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite or Trethem Mill just down the road - barely twenty minutes' drive from Truro. It's the sort of place where you can spend a proper afternoon without feeling rushed, though walkers will get more out of it than folk looking for short strolls.

Families with younger children might find the grounds a bit quiet after an hour, but if you've got teenagers or keen gardeners in tow, they'll wander for ages. The café serves decent lunch if you need to settle in for longer. Go midweek if you can - weekends bring the crowds, and honestly, the whole point here is peace and space.
