Mynydd Y Garth

The walk up Mynydd y Garth from Swansea takes about forty minutes if you're moving steadily, and the payoff is proper views across the Swansea Valley. It's not a mountain - more a sturdy hill at 300-odd metres - but on a clear day you can see right across to the Brecon Beacons, which makes the effort worthwhile.

The route itself is straightforward. Park near the village and follow the well-trodden paths uphill through moorland. Nothing technical, nothing that'll test your fitness beyond reason, though it does get a bit steep near the top. The summit's bare and windy, marked by a trig point, and there's genuinely little else up there except the views and a sense of having earned your lunch.

Walkers and families with older kids will get the most from this one. The younger ones might flag on the ascent, and there's not much to hold attention once you've reached the top - no café, no play area, no interpretive panels telling you what you're looking at. You come here for the views and the walk, not for attractions.
