It's not a dramatic summit - more a steady climb through farmland and open moorland - but on a clear day you get genuine sightlines toward Swansea itself and the rolling countryside beyond. The walk takes you away from main roads quickly, which matters more than you'd think when you're this close to urban sprawl.

This is walkers' terrain, full stop. Don't bring the family expecting a casual stroll with an ice cream stop. The climb is relentless and the paths can be boggy after rain, turning what should be a couple of hours into a proper hike. That said, there's something satisfying about it precisely because it doesn't pander - no visitor centre, no gift shop, just you and the Welsh moorland. History types might find the old quarry workings interesting, evidence of industrial life that shaped this valley for centuries.

You'll want to base yourself at one of the nearby parks - Black Ewe Glamping is just a short drive away if you fancy glamping with hot tub facilities, while River View Touring Park and the others dot the surrounding area within easy reach. Allow two to three hours for the full walk depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top. Go early on weekends to avoid sharing the narrow paths.
