Mynydd Llyndy

The walk up Mynydd Llyndy from Caernarfon side is a proper slog, but the views across the Snowdonia valleys make it worth every breath. It's not a particularly dramatic peak - nothing like the big hitters you see from the coast - but there's something satisfying about climbing a mountain that doesn't require a postcode to locate on the map.

You're looking at a decent hill walk rather than a serious scramble. The ascent takes a couple of hours depending on your fitness and the exact route you take. Walkers will get the most from this one. Don't expect crowds or mountain infrastructure - there's no café, no visitor centre, just you and the moorland.

The summit gives you that Snowdonia spread: Llyn Dwyarchen below, the distant peaks catching the light when conditions allow. On a clear day it's genuinely good. On a grey one, it's a bit atmospheric and moody - which, let's be honest, is half the charm of Welsh hill walking.

Families with older children who don't mind a proper walk will manage fine, though younger legs might find it tedious. It's free to attempt, obviously - there's no gate or permission needed.

If you're based at Llyn Gwynant Campsite, it's virtually on your doorstep at 3 miles, making it an ideal afternoon outing. Llechwedd Glamping is a touch further but still reasonable. Combine this with a loose circuit of the valley's other peaks if you've got the legs for it.
