Mynydd Dinas

The walk up Mynydd Dinas rewards you with proper 360-degree views across Swansea and beyond. It's not a massive undertaking - the summit sits at around 600 metres, so you're not talking Alpine effort here, but the climb is genuine enough to feel like you've earned the vista at the top.

On a clear day you can pick out the sweep of Swansea Bay, the industrial landscape of Port Talbot off to the west, and inland towards the Brecon Beacons. The peak itself is moorland, windswept and bracing even when the lowlands are calm. Walkers get the most from this one. It's straightforward without being boring, and the terrain keeps you focused enough that you're not just trudging for the sake of it.

Allow yourself two to three hours for the round trip depending on fitness and how long you dawdle at the top. There's no charge, and you can approach from various routes depending on where you start. Early morning or late afternoon light works best photographically, and weekdays tend to be quieter than weekends.

If you're based at Swansea Marina Tourer Park, this is a solid half-day walk that gets you out of the carpark bustle without requiring a long drive. The moorland character feels properly separated from the town despite the proximity. Wind can be fierce up there even when it's flat calm below, so layer up rather than rely on one puffy jacket. Worth doing if you're in the area and the weather cooperates.
