Mynydd Carn-llechart

The walk up Mynydd Carn-llechart feels properly Welsh - steep, a bit boggy underfoot, and rewarding once you've crested the ridge. It's a modest peak by most standards, but the views across Swansea Bay and towards the Gower Peninsula justify the huffing and puffing. On a clear day you can pick out Mumbles Head and the curve of the coastline stretching away. The summit itself isn't fussy - just moorland with decent vistas rather than trig point scenery you'd frame on your wall. Allow two to three hours there and back from the car park, depending on fitness. It's free, naturally, and you'll see mostly locals and serious walkers rather than tourist crowds. Families with older kids who don't mind muddy boots will get something from it. Young children might find the exposed sections a bit bleak and the ascent tedious. The real pleasure is in the walking itself and knowing you've done a proper upland circuit within striking distance of Swansea town centre. If you're based at Black Ewe Glamping just down the road - particularly nice with a hot tub after a moorland tramp - or staying at Riverside Holiday Park, this makes an excellent half-day excursion. The Gower is within an hour's drive if you want seaside variation. Weather matters here more than most walks. Come on a soft day and you'll enjoy it. Come in rain and wind, and you'll remember why you brought waterproofs.
