Moggs Eye

The viewing tower at Moggs Eye stands on the outskirts of Skegness like a stubby finger pointing at the Lincolnshire sky. It's a modest brick structure, nothing fancy, but climb the internal stairs and you get proper views across the coast and inland towards the Fens. On a clear day you can see for miles - flat, open country that most people zoom past on the A52.

Who goes? Walkers doing the coastal path, curious kids who fancy a climb, and anyone wanting a different angle on this corner of Lincolnshire. The tower itself takes about fifteen minutes to explore; you're not looking at hours here. It's free to access and works best as a quick stop rather than a destination in itself.

The real appeal is how it slots into a longer day. Skegness seafront is a ten-minute drive, and if you're camping at Creekside Family Camping just up the road in Anderby, or at Cherry Tree Springs or Sutton-on-Sea, Moggs Eye makes a decent leg-stretch between beach time and the caravan. The surrounding lanes are good for cycling too. It's the sort of place you do because you're staying nearby, not because you've travelled specifically to see it. That said, if you're after an unusual vantage point on the Lincolnshire coast without the tackiness of the seafront proper, it delivers. Worth twenty minutes of your time.
