Mincent Hill

The walk up Mincent Hill rewards you with proper Devon views - rolling countryside that stretches toward the coast if you time it right and the weather plays ball. It's a straightforward climb from the surrounding moorland, nothing that'll take more than an hour or so depending on your pace and how often you stop to catch your breath.

This is walker territory, frankly. The summit gives you that sense of achievement without requiring serious fell skills or all-day commitment. On a clear day you can see for miles across the Devon landscape. On a grey one - and there are plenty of those - it's still moody and worth the effort if you've got time to kill during a holiday.

Families with older kids will manage it fine. Younger ones might find it a bit of a slog depending on their legs. The real appeal here is stringing it together with other bits of the landscape - Dornafield Dartmoor Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite sits just a few miles away, or if you're based further down toward Torquay at Parkdean Resorts, this works as a decent half-day break from the beach crowds.

It's free to access and you can show up whenever suits. No visitor centre, no facilities on top - just moorland, sky and the chance to stand somewhere that matters a bit to the local landscape. Worth adding to an itinerary if you're walking the area anyway. Don't plan a trip around it alone.
