The moment you step into Millbrook Park near Bridport, you're into proper Dorset countryside - all rolling grassland, scattered woodland, and the kind of silence that makes you realise how little of it you get at home. It's a nature reserve that doesn't demand much of you, which is precisely why it works so well.

The paths meander through mixed habitats where you'll spot birds, butterflies, and if you're lucky, smaller mammals browsing the undergrowth. There's no formal trail system to navigate, no interpretive boards hammering home facts about biodiversity. Instead, you just walk and look and listen. Walkers after a break from the beach - and Bridport's seafront is only a few miles west - could do worse than an hour here before heading back to the car.

What you get is quiet green space and genuinely rewarding wildlife spotting, which honestly beats another afternoon trapped in a holiday park.
