Mill Park Reserve - Long Buckby Green Spaces

The old mill sits quietly at the heart of Long Buckby's green spaces, a modest reminder of the town's industrial past. Mill Park Reserve isn't flashy - there's no visitor centre or cafe - but that's rather the point. You get a proper walk along the water, through genuine countryside that feels a world away from Northampton, just a few miles south.

It's the kind of place where you notice things. Willows overhang the water. Birds work the banks. The paths are easy enough for families with young kids, though terrain varies depending which route you take. Allow an hour for a gentle circuit, longer if you're the type to stop and watch dragonflies.

Historically minded visitors will appreciate what they're looking at - this was working industrial land once, grinding grain, driving the local economy. Now it's been allowed to rewild gently, which tells its own story about how we use these spaces differently now.

The reserve works well as a break if you're staying at Steepleton Lodge Glamping or Covert Farm just down the road. Both are close enough for an evening stroll before dinner. If you're after something more substantial, it pairs naturally with walking routes across the wider Northamptonshire countryside - the landscape here is rolling enough to keep you interested without being demanding.

Free access, no facilities that I could find, so come prepared. Best visited when the light's good - golden hour here is genuinely lovely. Muddy after rain, manageable otherwise.
