It's a straightforward ascent from Warminster, taking the best part of an hour if you're not rushing, and the summit itself is modest rather than spectacular. You get to the top, take in the vista, and most people turn straight back down again. There's no café, no facilities, no crowds fighting for the best vantage point.

This works best for walkers who actually enjoy the walk itself rather than just ticking off a peak. Families with older kids will manage it fine, though younger ones might find the return journey tedious. The real appeal is how it slots into a broader ramble around the area - you're not climbing it as a day trip in isolation.

If you're based at one of the nearby parks - Center Parcs Longleat Forest, Hidden Wood Glamping, or Country View Camping are all within striking distance - it makes a decent morning outing before heading elsewhere. The Longleat estate itself offers far more entertainment, and frankly, if you've only got a couple of hours free, you'd probably get more from that.
