Mennaye Boating Lake

There's a proper working boating lake just outside Gulval that most visitors racing toward St. Ives completely miss. Mennaye is the sort of place where locals bring their kids on Saturday mornings and dog walkers loop round twice before heading home for lunch. You can hire a small boat or paddle-canoe if you fancy getting on the water - nothing fancy, but it's genuinely peaceful. The lake itself is ringed by trees, so even on a warm day it feels sheltered and calm. Birdwatchers do quite well here, and the walk round takes about twenty minutes at a leisurely pace.

It's absolutely the kind of spot to slot into a park holiday without overthinking it. From Foxglove Field Glamping or Roselands Caravan Camping Park you're only a short drive away, making it ideal for a morning out before heading to the beach or doing something else. Families with younger kids will get an hour out of it comfortably, though teenagers might need more than just the lake itself to stay entertained. Free to walk around, though boat hire will cost you a bit.

Go early if you can - the light's better, it's quieter, and you'll actually hear the water. Don't expect anything grand or touristy. This is genuine local territory, and that's exactly what makes it worth the detour when you're staying in the area.
