Marl Copse

A proper woodland walk through Marl Copse feels like stepping away from the Tring commuter belt entirely, even though you're barely a stone's throw from town. The forest floor is thick with leaf litter, the canopy does its job in spring and summer, and there's enough of a wander here to feel like you've actually gone somewhere without needing hiking boots or a full day blocked out.

It's the sort of place that works well for families with younger kids - plenty of fallen logs to balance on, trees to investigate, and the paths are manageable enough that you won't spend the whole time mediating complaints about tired legs. Older walkers will find it a decent leg-stretch, though it's not dramatic terrain. If you're into woodland birds or fungi, bring a guide and take your time; there's real quiet here.

The real win is proximity. Staying at Hill Farm Camping just under a mile away gives you easy access without the faff of driving somewhere. Even from Chiltern Yurts or Wingbury Farm you're looking at a quick hop. It's the sort of woodland you'd combine with a walk into Tring itself rather than make a pilgrimage for alone - but that's not a knock against it. Sometimes the best bit of a park holiday is having proper walks on your doorstep rather than spending two hours getting to the next 'attraction'. Free access, no facilities to speak of, but that's rather the point of a forest.
