Manor Park, Aldershot

A proper working nature reserve on the edge of Aldershot, Manor Park gives you genuine woodland and grassland without the tourist crowds you'd find at bigger Surrey destinations. The site's managed for wildlife - you'll spot birds, insects, and the occasional deer if you're lucky, and the walking paths are straightforward enough that families with younger kids won't struggle. It's the kind of place where a two-hour visit feels exactly right. You're not climbing mountains or queueing for attractions; you're just walking through real countryside that happens to be minutes from town.

The reserve works well if you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Tilford Woods Lodge Retreat and Chapel Farm Park are both within five miles, so it's an easy morning outing before heading elsewhere. Farnham's close enough if you need supplies or a decent lunch after. Go in spring or early summer when the birdlife is most active; autumn's decent too if you want fewer visitors tramping about.

It's free to access and there's no time pressure, which is rather the point.
