Manor Copse

A proper woodland walk just outside Guildford, Manor Copse is one of those forests you stumble upon rather than plan around. It's not dramatic - no towering ancient oaks or rare species plaques - just solid Surrey woodland with decent paths and enough green to clear your head for an hour or two.

The trees are mixed deciduous and evergreen, the sort that give you decent cover when it drizzles. There are enough paths threading through to make it work whether you've got twenty minutes or an afternoon. Dog walkers obviously love it, and families with kids who don't demand waterfalls or viewpoints will find it perfectly fine - just don't expect the kids to be amazed.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Chantry Wood or Wyldecrest are closest at a couple of miles - this makes a straightforward morning jaunt. It's not thrilling enough to be a destination on its own, but it's the sort of place that fills a gap between proper attractions. Good for a reset between Guildford town and the Surrey Hills proper.

Access seems open year-round and costs nothing. Allow ninety minutes maximum unless you're really keen on just sitting still in the trees. Spring when the woodland floor comes alive is better than midwinter when it feels a bit tired. Worth knowing about if you're in the area, but not worth traveling for.
