The wooden platform at Makepeace Hide rises just high enough to shift your perspective on Romney Marsh's flat, open landscape. Herons is only minutes away, making this a straightforward detour if you're camping nearby.

It's a proper birdwatcher's stop rather than a family attraction. Bring binoculars, a bird guide, and patience. The hide itself is basic - just a shelter with viewing slots - but that's exactly what makes it work. You'll see waders, wildfowl, and if you're lucky, rarer migrants depending on the season.
