Mackessock Park

Mackessock Park sits on the edge of Rothes, a proper working sports ground rather than some manicured tourist attraction. You'll find football pitches, training facilities, and the sort of place where local teams actually come to play rather than just pose for photos.

It's genuinely useful if you're staying nearby - families with kids who want to kick a ball around will find space and facilities without needing to book ahead or pay a fortune. The park serves the community first and visitors second, which is refreshing. Don't expect much in the way of spectacle or signage, but that's partly the point. This is where Rothes FC trains and plays.

The Moray area around here has enough going on that you wouldn't plan a day around Mackessock alone. But if you're based at Cairnty Lodges just down the road - and those hot tub pods do look tempting - popping over for an afternoon of fresh air and a casual game makes sense. The park gives you a genuine glimpse of how locals spend their time rather than what's been packaged for tourists. Worth a look if you're in the area, but don't divert specially.
