The dam itself is modest - nothing that'll make you gasp - but the footpath around the water gives you decent views across to Pendle Hill on clear days, and the whole circuit takes about an hour depending on your pace. Walkers get the most from this one. The moorland setting means it's bleak in winter but atmospheric, and summer brings enough visibility to make the trek worthwhile. There's a car park at the reservoir itself, and the walking is straightforward enough for families with older kids, though younger ones might find the moorland exposed and a bit dull. The ground can be boggy after rain, so decent boots matter. It's free to visit and there's no particular busy season - fewer people turns up at weekends than you'd expect. Staying at Higher Grange Glamping just down the road makes logical sense if you want a comfortable base and early access to the water. The reservoir works well as part of a wider walking trip around Pendle - you could combine it with higher-level moorland walks or use it as an easier warm-up leg. Pendle View Holiday Park, further out near Clitheroe, puts you in reach of bigger attractions if the mood takes you, but Lower Black Moss itself is honest rather than spectacular. Worth doing if you're in the area and fancy a leg-stretch, but don't make it the reason to visit Lancashire.
