Lowclose Plantation

A proper woodland walk, this one. Lowclose Plantation sits just inland from Withernsea and gives you a chance to shake off the coastal salt with some decent tree cover - which, let's be honest, isn't thick on the ground around East Yorkshire. The plantation itself is fairly straightforward: planted woodland with paths that cut through reasonably well, good for a brisk hour if you're not dawdling, longer if you want to sit and actually enjoy the quiet.

Walkers will find it useful, particularly those who've spent the morning on the promenade and fancy something greener. It's not dramatic or wild - this is managed woodland, not ancient forest - but that's rather the point. Kids will tolerate it without complaint, though they won't be climbing ancient oaks or spotting rare birds. It's honest walking country.

Being free and just off the main drag makes it a sensible addition to a park holiday at Parkdean Resorts Withernsea Sands or Little Otchan Glamping. Neither location is more than a few minutes' drive away. Go mid-week if possible - weekends can get busier than you'd expect. Bring decent shoes; it's not boggy, but it's not manicured either. Winter's actually quite nice here, when the trees are bare enough that you get some light filtering through.
