Withernsea Lighthouse Museum

The lighthouse itself is a proper Victorian tower right on the seafront at Withernsea - you can't miss the red and white stripes. It's been converted into a museum that charts the building's history and what it meant to this seaside town over the decades. The climb to the top is steep enough to earn a decent view across the coast, though it's not the most dramatic panorama you'll find on the Yorkshire shore.

Inside, you get the usual maritime artefacts and local history displays. It's genuinely interesting if you're into that sort of thing - wrecks, rescues, the lot - but honest assessment: you'll spend an hour here, tops. Kids might find the spiral staircase more compelling than the exhibits themselves, which is fair.

The real draw is that it anchors a visit to Withernsea's seafront nicely. Walk along the prom, grab fish and chips, pop into the museum. If you're staying at Parkdean Resorts Withernsea Sands just down the road, it's an easy stroll with the family. Little Otchan Glamping and Sand le Mere Holiday Park are also within spitting distance, so it works as a half-day stop rather than a day trip destination.

Free or paid entry wasn't confirmed, so ring ahead or check when you arrive. Summer visits are better - the seafront's actually quite lively then, whereas winter gets properly bleak. Well worth an hour if you're in the area anyway.
