Lord's Lot

Lord's Lot is a fell that rises abruptly from the landscape just outside Kendal, and it's one of those walks where you'll spend more time scrambling than admiring the view - though that's precisely what makes it worth doing. The summit itself is modest, nothing like the dramatic peaks further north, but the approach is engaging enough and the reward is a proper panorama across the Kent valley and towards the Lake District fells beyond.

It's a walker's hill rather than a stroll, honestly. Allow a couple of hours there and back from the car park, depending on fitness. The paths are well-trodden but rocky in places, and you'll gain height steadily without any false summits to crush your morale. Families with older kids who can manage a decent climb will get on with it fine; younger ones might find it tedious.

What makes Lord's Lot useful on a Lakeland holiday is proximity. You're within spitting distance of Kendal, and if you're based at one of the nearby camping spots - Damson View Glamping or Lakeland Glamping are barely a mile away - you can knock this off before breakfast without eating into time you'd spend exploring Windermere or the bigger valleys. It's not going to change your life, but on a decent morning it's a cracking way to shake the stiffness out before heading to more famous attractions.

The fell is free to access and open year-round. Go early if you can; the later crowds from Kendal can be a bother on summer weekends.
