Long Walk Spinney

A proper woodland walk just outside Northampton, Long Walk Spinney is the sort of place locals know and visitors often miss. You're walking through mixed woodland - nothing dramatic, but genuinely pleasant once you're in among the trees. The paths are well-trodden and manageable for most abilities, though the ground can get muddy after rain, which is half the appeal if you're after a bit of rough comfort.

It works best for people who want to stretch their legs without the fuss of planning a major hike. Families with primary-school kids will get a good hour out of it; teenagers might find it a touch dull unless they're keen on nature spotting. Walkers who know the area use it as a quick circuit before or after something else. There's genuine peace here - the kind where you actually notice birdsong.

Walk time is roughly 45 minutes to an hour depending on your pace. Go early on weekends if you want it quieter. There's no visitor centre or facilities that I'm aware of, so bring water and dress for the weather. Free access as far as I can tell.

If you're based at one of the local glamping sites - Lakeview is barely two miles away - this beats driving somewhere grander. Bunkers Hill Farm and Steepleton Lodge are within easy reach too. It's the sort of walk that rounds off a park holiday nicely rather than being a destination in itself, but that's exactly why it's useful to know about.
