Lodge Wood

Lodge Wood is a proper woodland walk through dense Kent forest, the sort of place where you lose the sound of traffic within five minutes. The trees are tall enough that even in summer you'll want a jumper, and the paths wind through enough undergrowth that kids actually feel like they're on an adventure rather than a stroll through a park.

It's best suited to families with children old enough to manage uneven ground without constant hand-holding, and to walkers who want something genuine without the crowds. You're looking at anything from 45 minutes to two hours depending on which routes you fancy - there's flexibility rather than one obvious circuit. Bring proper shoes; the ground gets boggy after rain.

The woodland itself isn't particularly famous or dramatic, which honestly works in its favour. You won't battle crowds or find the place Instagram-staged. It's the kind of place locals know and visitors miss, and that's its appeal. There's something about walking through old Kent woodland that feels properly English without any of the twee nonsense.

If you're camping at Dunn Street Farm or any of the other sites within a few miles, this is an easy add-on for a morning before heading elsewhere. It won't consume your whole day, which means you can layer it into a proper holiday rather than make it the focal point. Worth the detour if you're already in the area and fancy genuine woodland rather than manicured forest attractions.
