Loch nam Bonnach

A small, quiet loch tucked into the Highland landscape near Beauly, Loch nam Bonnach is the sort of place you stumble upon rather than deliberately seek out. The water sits between moorland and forestry, unremarkable at first glance but genuinely peaceful once you're there. There's no visitor infrastructure to speak of - no cafe, no car park, no interpretation boards. You just show up and walk around it.

It works best for people after a proper walk rather than a casual stroll. The loch itself isn't dramatic - no mountains rear up behind it, no rare birds gather - but if you're exploring the area around Beauly and fancy getting away from the main roads, it's a decent detour. Walkers will appreciate the quietness; families with young children might find it a bit underwhelming unless they're keen on spotting water birds or skimming stones.

The real appeal is context. If you're staying at Beauly Holiday Park or Highland Premier Glamping Pods nearby, adding a morning walk here breaks up your holiday without eating the whole day. The Beauly area itself has decent walking and you could string together several small lochs and woodland walks. Allow an hour or so for a circuit, less if you're just after a quick look. Go in decent weather - it's exposed enough that a wet day turns it from peaceful into dreary fast.
