Loch Lomond Viewpoint

The view from this spot above Arrochar stops you dead. Loch Lomond spreads out below like someone's spilled a sheet of grey-blue silk across the valley, ringed by hills that get properly dramatic the further north you look. On a clear day you can see right down the length of it - Ben Lomond dominates the eastern shore, but it's the sheer scale of the water that gets you. The loch is Scotland's largest by surface area, and standing here you understand why locals get a bit proprietary about it.

It's a proper walk to reach this viewpoint - nothing severe, but enough to separate the casual drivers from people who've actually come to look. The nearest town is Arrochar, which sits right at the loch's southern tip, so you're ideally placed if you're based at one of the holiday parks nearby. Loch Lomond Holiday Park and Forest Holidays Ardgartan are both close enough for a morning or afternoon trip. Inverbeg, a touch further out, is worth the extra distance if you want something quieter.

Who gets the most from it? Walkers, absolutely - it's a decent vantage point after some effort. Photographers will camp here for hours waiting for light. Families with older kids will find it worthwhile; younger ones might get restless without a proper trail to follow. The viewing platform itself requires no fees that I'm aware of, and you can spend as long as you like taking it in. Go when the weather's settled - midweek mornings tend to be less crowded than weekends.
