What you actually get is a natural cave system that rewards a bit of scrambling - it's not a polished tourist attraction with handrails and gift shops, which honestly is part of the appeal.

The walk to reach it is the real draw. You'll need decent boots and a decent map (or phone signal), and the landscape around Builth Wells is proper rolling country - the kind where you can see how a medieval prince might have thought he could vanish. Allow two to three hours for the whole expedition, more if you're not a confident navigator. History types will find it compelling; families with young children might find it frustrating if the kids aren't into a challenging walk for a cave that's basically a hole in a rock.

There's no visitor centre, no admission charge that I could pin down, and no set opening hours - it's a natural feature, so access is pretty much whenever you can get there. Winter can make the approach treacherous.
