Llyn Celanedd

Llyn Celanedd is a quiet freshwater lake on Anglesey that attracts birdwatchers and anyone after a proper walk without the crowds. The reserve itself is small - you're looking at a couple of hours maximum to do the circuit - but the wetland habitat pulls in some decent species, especially in spring and autumn when migrating birds pass through.

The walk is straightforward enough, skirting the water's edge with decent visibility across the lake. On a clear day you get decent views, though I'll be honest - it's not the kind of place that'll leave you breathless. What it does offer is peace and a genuine sense of being out in rural Anglesey. Families with older kids who can manage a steady walk will find it worthwhile. Younger children might get a bit restless on the longer stretches.

Beaumaris, just a few miles south, is your nearest proper base - a historic market town with castle ruins and decent pubs. If you're staying at one of the caravan parks nearby - Kingsbridge or Wonderfully Wild are the closest - Llyn Celanedd makes a solid morning outing before heading into town for lunch. It's the sort of walk that fits neatly into a broader Anglesey holiday, rather than something you'd trek specially to see.

Access appears to be free, though facilities are minimal. Go early if you want any chance of spotting wildlife. Bring binoculars and patience rather than expecting a dramatic wildlife encounter.
