Llangelynnin Church

You'll find this modest stone church tucked away in the hills above Tywyn, and it's genuinely one of those places where you feel like you've stumbled onto something real rather than ticked a box. Llangelynnin sits at the end of a narrow lane, surrounded by moorland and views that stretch down toward Cardigan Bay - the sort of spot where the wind does most of the talking.

Inside, it's small and properly ancient. The church dates back centuries, with that particular smell of old stone and quiet that only happens in places like this. There's nothing flash about it - no gift shop, no audio guide, just the building itself and whatever history you bring to it. You'll spend maybe twenty minutes looking around, unless you're the sort who reads every inscription.

It's worth the detour if you're into churches with actual character, or if you're walking in the hills anyway. Families with young kids might find it a bit dull - there's not much to do once you've looked at the nave. But if you're staying at Cae Du Campsite nearby, or Sunbeach just down the road, it's an easy leg-stretch with decent views thrown in.

The real draw is the location. On a clear day you can see right across the valley, and the walk up the lane itself is pleasant enough. Go in the morning if you can - the light's better and you'll have the place to yourself. It's the sort of church that reminds you why people built them where they did.
