About Little Fell
Families with young children will find this an excellent introduction to fell walking. The path winds through open grassland and patches of woodland, and most reasonably fit kids can manage the ascent in under an hour. Dog walkers love it too - plenty of space to let them off the lead.
From the summit, you'll spot the distinctive profile of Wansfell to the northeast and catch glimpses of Coniston Water on clearer days. It's particularly lovely in late afternoon when the light catches Windermere's surface. The descent back towards Ambleside takes you through some pleasant woodland sections.
Expect to spend around two hours for the full circuit. Early morning visits tend to be quieter, though the fell never gets truly busy even in peak season. If you're staying at one of the Great Langdale campsites or the well-rated Lakeside Retreat Glamping, it's a straightforward drive to the starting point near Ambleside. Not the most dramatic fell in the Lakes, but a cracking warm-up for bigger adventures.
