Little Collishaw Hill

The walk up Little Collishaw Hill rewards you with proper Yorkshire moorland views without the crowds you'd find on bigger peaks nearby. It's not dramatically high - you're looking at around 300 metres - but the climb is steady and the landscape opens up nicely as you gain elevation, rolling moorland stretching out towards Harrogate.

What you get is a genuine fell walk in miniature. The terrain is mixed: some rocky sections, boggy patches that demand careful footing, and rough grass pathways that locals clearly use regularly. On a clear day the visibility is excellent. The descent can be muddy, so decent boots matter more than you'd think for something this modest in height.

Walkers will find it worthwhile, particularly those with teenage children who want the satisfaction of a peak without committing to a full day expedition. It's absolutely not a stroll - allow a solid two hours return from the trailhead. History enthusiasts might be less gripped; there's not much interpretation or heritage context around the hill itself.

If you're camping at Breaks Fold Farm Glamping or Bolton Abbey Estate just down the road, this makes a perfect morning walk before breaking camp. It fills that gap between "quick village amble" and "serious fell day". The moorland around here sees fewer visitors than the honeypots further west, which means better solitude and more genuine quietness. The weather shifts quickly though, so don't underestimate what looks like a gentle hill.
