Linces Wood

Linces Wood is a proper woodland walk just outside Canterbury - the sort of place locals know about but visitors often miss. It's dense, green, and genuinely feels like you've stepped away from the cathedral city within minutes. The forest floor is soft underfoot, there's decent tree coverage, and you'll find yourself on winding paths that don't feel managed to death.

Walkers and families with older kids will get the most from it. It's not a destination in itself - more a solid two-hour circuit that clears your head. The paths are fine in most seasons, though autumn's genuinely brilliant when the canopy turns. Allow a couple of hours if you're not rushing, less if you just want a quick leg-stretch between other attractions.

There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, so bring water and decent shoes. It's free to access, which is refreshing. What you won't get here are spectacular views or history lessons - this is woodland for its own sake, which is exactly why it works.
